EMI/RFI Shielding
Vacuum metalising can be used to provide EMI shielding (electro magnetic interference) and RFI shielding (radio frequency interference) for plastic enclosures of electronic devices. There are numerous applications including automotive, medical, aerospace and defence. Vacuum metalising can also be used to provide a vapour and oxygen barrier for moisture sensitive components. We are happy to undertake such work and can supply components that comply with EN 300 440 European standard on Electromagnetic compatibility.
There are advantages to using vacuum metalising. Unlike other methods of shielding such as zinc arc spraying or electroplating, vacuum metalizing does not accumulate large build-ups and deposits. Vacuum metalising can also give a greater depth of penetration and adhesion.
An example of EMI/RFI shielding that we are currently involved in, is for shielding of components to enclose motion detector units that are installed in vehicle intruder alarms.
